11427 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: When NZTA made public statements in November 2025 describing the maximum penalty for providing false information in a driver licence application as a fine of up to $750, was that figure accurate; and is the Minister aware that NZTA's own licence conversion application form advises applicants that the same offence under section 44 of the Land Transport Act 1998 carries a maximum fine of up to $10,000?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) that its media statement, which outlined that the infringement fine is $750, is correct. If a charging document is filed, upon conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine not exceeding $10,000. Therefore, the information on the current forms and NZTA website is also correct.
