11410 (2026). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister responsible for RMA Reform: What provisions, if any, in the Planning Bill and Natural Environment Bill will ensure meaningful and substantive opportunities for iwi and hapū to participate in decision-making at the regional and local level?
Hon Chris Bishop: The Bills include multiple provisions that provide iwi and hapū with opportunities to participate in decision-making at regional and local level, including requirements to consult tangata whenua through iwi authorities during land use plan preparation and changes, requirements for iwi engagement in spatial planning processes, and consultation requirements in compliance and enforcement strategy development. These provisions apply across the national, regional and territorial planning processes established by the Bills. I refer the Member to the attached table which details the specific provisions that provide opportunities for iwi and hapu participation within the Bills.
