11305 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Social Investment: How will the social investment agency be different to the Social Wellbeing Agency?
Hon Nicola Willis: The Social Investment Agency will be a stand-alone central agency. Cabinet agreed to make the agency a central agency because the role that is required for this shift needs a strong focus on coordinating and managing public service performance, especially social sector agencies. The Social Investment Agency will power-up the social investment approach, lead the development of social investment across government, helping us achieve better results from our social service expenditure with smarter use of data, evidence and analytics, driving positive change for our most vulnerable New Zealanders. New additional functions of the Social Investment Agency will include: • Setting the standards for social investment practice to ensure there is consistency across government agencies and contracted providers • Advising on and facilitating the creation of the necessary data and evidence infrastructure for social investment • Working with other agencies to apply the social investment approach • Leading an ongoing review of social sector spending to measure outcomes. • Establishing a social investment fund
