11250 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Education: How, if at all, does the Ministry of Education plan to collaborate with iwi to ensure that local histories and cultural aspects are integrated into the curriculum effectively?
Hon Erica Stanford: I have asked the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) to set up a Māori Advisory Group to support changes underway to establish a knowledge-rich national curriculum grounded in the science of learning.
The Ministry has been working closely in partnership with hapū, iwi and Māori organisations throughout New Zealand since 2020, as part of the Critical Local Histories programme. This programme supports the development of engaging resources and teaching and learning programmes which help teachers bring the national curriculum to life.
