11244 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Does the Minister agree with Te Whatu Ora's director of living well Martin Hefford that 40 -50% of General Practitioners work could be done by telehealth consultations?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: Telehealth provides a convenient and accessible way for patients to receive medical advice and treatment remotely, especially where in-person visits may not be necessary. While I consider the figure quoted to be high, I consider that telehealth has a role in supporting GP work. I am advised that the comments were intended to demonstrate how telehealth could be used as part of a primary care toolkit to support GPs in meeting overall patient demand for primary care services.
