11239 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What advice, if any, has the minister received on the effect of general practitioner trainees being offered lower pay as part of the current New Zealand Resident Doctors Association negotiations?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the majority of first year General Practice Education Programme (GPEP1) Registrars are currently employed by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. The New Zealand Resident Doctors Association is currently in bargaining with the College for the renewal of their collective agreement. I have not been advised on any proposals by the College to offer lower pay than is currently provided. In addition, it is not appropriate for me as the Minister of Health to comment on active negotiations.
