Hon Chris Penk: There were 808 earthquake-prone buildings in the Wellington region listed on the register of earthquake-prone buildings (the EPB Register), as of 30 April 2024. The Wellington region is inclusive of the territorial authority boundaries of Carterton District Council, Hutt City Council, Kapiti Coast District Council, Masterton District Council, Porirua City Council, South Wairarapa District Council, Upper Hutt City Council and Wellington City Council. I refer the Member to Appendix 1 for a table showing the number of earthquake-prone buildings in each relevant territorial authority area. The EPB register does not hold information on building use; however, Wellington City Council has separately advised that there are 49 earthquake-prone apartment buildings within its territorial authority area.
