11083 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Associate Minister of Justice: Has the minister received any advice from the police (whether directly or indirectly) on possible effects of removing the firearms register; provide details of the nature and dates of that advice?

Hon Nicole McKee: I have not received any direct advice from Police on the possible effects of removing the register. I have received more general advice from Police about: • the firearms system, in an aide memoire shared by the Minister of Police from 29 November 2023, and • how they are currently using the register to track the flow of firearms, in an oral briefing on 29 February 2024.
