10915 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Education: What steps is the Ministry taking to address the ongoing issues in the relationship with Kaupapa Māori Education Peak Bodies, particularly concerning their aspiration for greater levels of agency and authority?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) are working with Māori education leaders and experts to strengthen outcomes for ākonga Māori. I have had very positive meetings with Kaupapa Māori education representatives to understand their priorities for Kaupapa Māori Education, including their aspirations for greater levels of agency and authority. I acknowledge the success of kaupapa Māori education, especially what we can learn from their provision. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 10917 (2024).
