10899 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What guidance, if any, is available for New Zealand General Practitioners on the use of telehealth?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the New Zealand Telehealth Forum – consisting of clinicians, consumers, policymakers, planning and funding managers, ICT experts, and industry representatives – provides leadership in the use of sustainable models of equitable, patient-centered care enabled by telehealth.
I am further advised the NZ Telehealth Forum and Resource Centre brings together guidance and resources that support health providers to implement and grow telehealth services. There are several regulations, standards, and guidelines on the role of telehealth in New Zealand. Key guiding documents for General Practitioners include (but are not limited to) the Medical Council of New Zealand – Statement on Telehealth (Updated August 2023), and The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners - Position Statement on Telehealth (2024).
