10868 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter October – December 2023 to ‘Build a sustainable commissioning relationship with the private hospital sector establishing longer term agreements’ under section 3.5 ‘Networked hospital and specialist service delivery’ within Te Whatu Ora’s Te Pae Tata: Interim New Zealand Health Plan 2022?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the October - December 2023 quarter Health New Zealand began an analysis of the private surgical services market to understand current market dynamics and the role various organisations play. The output of this work will enable Health NZ to understand how best to commission work with private hospitals in order to ensure clinical and financial sustainability for itself and its private provider network.
