10865 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter October – December 2023 to ‘Improve the interoperability of data and digital systems across the hospital network, and between primary, community and secondary care settings’ under section 3.7 ‘Strengthening our system enablers’ within Te Whatu Ora’s Te Pae Tata: Interim New Zealand Health Plan 2022?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the October – December 2023 quarter, the first round of national and sector standards for the Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR) application programming interfaces (APIs) were released. APIs provide the integration reference architecture to standardise interoperability for Health New Zealand systems. In particular, APIs were released that have minimised impact on GP systems as Health NZ transitions to AIR from the old National Immunisation Register (NIR).
I am further advised that in addition to this significant step, there is ongoing work across Health NZ districts and regions to incrementally improve the interoperability of its systems.
