10837 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: Which poverty reduction tools, if any, does the Minister or her office consider when reviewing adjustments to the minimum wage?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I received the Minimum Wage Review 2024 report prepared by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. This included analysis on the net impact of different options for the 2025 minimum wage rates on different household types (after changes in income assistance were taken into account). The types of targeted income assistance specifically considered in the Minimum Wage Review were the In-Work Tax Credit, Family Tax Credit and Accommodation Supplement. These measures are each broadly understood to be poverty reduction tools.
