10732 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Acting Minister for Women: What does she mean when she says, “I want to see continued improvements in the support we provide to communities, so that our workforces are confident and capable to respond to family violence and sexual violence”?

Hon Louise Upston: Family violence and sexual violence is an important yet complex issue that cannot be addressed by a single Minister alone, and should involve Government and communities working together. Ensuring that we have skilled, culturally competent and sustainable workforce is a shift that the National Strategy to Eliminate Family Violence and Sexual Violence – Te Aorerekura is working towards. How this shift is advanced over the next 5 years will be through the next Action Plan to be released later this year. I, along with other Ministers with portfolio responsibility for family and sexual violence, remain committed to supporting the Minister of Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence to deliver that plan. In May 2022, two family violence capability frameworks were released to support organisations and workers to respond to family violence. Work is being done to develop sexual violence frameworks.
