Hon Judith Collins: I was informed that NIWA was projecting revenue reductions and was therefore reviewing its expenditure in order to remain financially viable. As a Crown Research Institute, NIWA’s budget is a matter for its board of directors whose statutory responsibilities under the Crown Research Institutes Act 1992 include operating in a financially responsible manner so that NIWA maintains its financial viability, while fulfilling its purpose.
