10651 (2024). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Local Government: What is the average size of council debt related to three waters services and infrastructure, if any, broken down by council?

Hon Simeon Brown: Councils will be providing their financial information through their long-term plans that are currently being prepared and consulted on with local communities. I will also build a comprehensive and Council built view of financial information related to water service delivery through Water Service Delivery Plans that will be introduced in the Local Government (Water Services Preliminary Arrangements) Bill later this month.    Through the Water Service Delivery Plans, councils will be asked to provide baseline information about their water services operations, assets, revenue, expenditure, pricing, and capital.    Council provided financial information, rather than the costly, top down modelling undertaken by the previous Government will provide reliable and actionable data to improve water service delivery.
