10644 (2024). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Local Government: Can the Minister guarantee that his replacement of the previous Government's Affordable Water reforms will save ratepayers more than they were lined up to under those reforms?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am very clear in my intention that Local Water Done Well will ensure New Zealanders pay charges for water services that reflect the cost of providing them and are sustainable for councils and consumers. Under Local Water Done Well the Government is focused on ensuring councils have access to a range of funding and financing tools so that they can make long-term investments in water infrastructure while ensuring affordability for ratepayers. Strong economic regulation will ensure consumers pay efficient, cost-reflective prices for water services.
