10551 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter October – December 2023 to ‘Urgently progress the mental health inpatient units approved builds and ensure the construction programme meets the agreed milestones’ under section 2.5 ‘Oranga hinengaro | People living with mental distress, illness and addictions’ within Te Whatu Ora’s Te Pae Tata: Interim New Zealand Health Plan 2022?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that as of 31 December 2023, construction was underway (either enabling or main works) on 10 of the 16 projects linked together by the Mental Health Infrastructure Programme. I further advised that milestones during the quarter included the completion of the roof for the facility at Gisborne Hospital, and main contractors being appointed to the projects at Rotorua and Waikato Hospitals. A Registration of Interest to construct the facility at Grey Base Hospital was also released, and consultant teams were appointed to the Tauranga and Hutt Hospital projects.
