10545 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter October – December 2023 to ‘Reduce the overall proportion of expenditure related to management costs and redeploy those savings to front-line staff and services’ under section 3.1 ‘Transition to transformation’ within Te Whatu Ora’s Te Pae Tata: Interim New Zealand Health Plan 2022?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the October - December 2023 quarter, consultation was underway across all business functions of Health New Zealand. In addition, a team was in place to support the management of change processes, including the establishment of a consultation portal; weekly union engagement forums; a career transition support centre, and the delivery of change leadership and resilience training to more than 2,000 leaders.
I am also advised that as part of its change processes, the nationalising of support functions to remove duplication has allowed Health NZ to reduce the number of management and administration roles by over 2,000 since 30 June 2022. Those savings have been redirected into frontline services.
