10514 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Associate Minister of Housing: What is the average time, if any, between a tenant contacting Tenancy Services and attending a Tenancy Tribunal hearing?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment does not hold data on the time between a tenant contacting Tenancy Services and attending a Tenancy Tribunal hearing. Not all tenants will contact Tenancy Services before making an application to the Tenancy Tribunal and approximately 85% of applications to the Tenancy Tribunal are made by landlords.
The average time between Tenancy Services receiving an application to the Tenancy Tribunal and a hearing being held for the case was just under 47 working days, or just over 9 weeks, in February 2025.
