10497 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Transport: What steps does Waka Kotahi take to ensure the good behaviour and proper conduct of entities who are authorised pursuant to section 241 of the Land Transport Act 1998 to have access to the names and addresses of persons who are currently registered in respect of a motor vehicle(s); and who have not instructed the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to withhold their details?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that section 241 users are subject to robust terms and conditions, and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) audits non-compliance when issues arise. NZTA is taking steps to create a monitoring and auditing framework and introduce an auditing schedule, and has been working closely with key stakeholders, such as representative bodies including the Financial Services Federation and the Motor Trader Association, to understand more about how their members use the authorisation and promote compliance.
