10477 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: What, if any, advice has the minister received to suggest that schools are not already teaching “an hour a day of reading, writing and maths”?

Hon Erica Stanford: ERO have advised me that as at 12 April 2024 they had engaged with 1713 schools that are required to implement the policy. Of these: • 79% were already teaching 1 hour a day of reading, writing and maths; • 19.4% had begun the new practice of 1 hour a day; and • 1.6% had not implemented the new requirements. The Education Review Office have referred the 1.6% of schools who had not implemented the requirements to the Ministry of Education who will work with them to become compliant.
