10463 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: What evidence, if any, led to the target of 80% year eight students at curriculum by 2030?

Hon Erica Stanford: I refer the member to the attached table which shows the Year 8 students who achieved the minimum associated with achieving curriculum level 4 objectives across a range of years and learning areas. In a number of learning areas the majority of children were not at curriculum in Year 8. The evidence is clear that the current system is failing our children. The size of the challenge to achieve the target of 80% year eight students at curriculum by 2030 cannot be underestimated but this coalition government is committed to high aspirations and educational achievement for all children in New Zealand.
