10454 (2024). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What are the specific differences, if any, between the industry-led 'gold standard' and 'the highest of welfare standards' as referenced in his response to question 8849?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: The 'gold standard' was a piece of work led by industry. The Ministry for Primary Industries will consult on options to reinstate the trade with the highest of animal welfare standards before providing me with more detailed advice and options as part of future work. Any proposed changes which relate to specific criteria will be consulted upon as part of the policy development process, and I encourage everyone to engage with this consultation process when it is released.
