10444 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Prime Minister: What instructions, if any, has he issued ministers regarding the use of exceptions to the Cabinet Fees Framework since 1 November 2025?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC).
In July 2025, Cabinet agreed to a revised Fees Framework for determining or reassessing the fees paid to members of statutory and other bodies in which the Crown has an interest. Details relating to the updated Cabinet Fees Framework are set out in CO (25) 2: Cabinet Fees Framework for members appointed to bodies in which the Crown has an interest | Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC)
Appointments under the Cabinet Fees Framework are managed by entities within the Minister’s portfolio in accordance with Cabinet Office Circular CO (25) 2 and Cabinet Manual. Information on board remuneration is available within entities’ annual reports.
I have provided no advice regarding the Cabinet Fees Framework, Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission provides advice and guidance to agencies on the interpretation and implementation of the Cabinet Fees Framework.
