10433 (2026). Lan Pham to the Minister of Local Government: Following Response 7990 (2026), what was the nature of each of the directions issued by Taumata Arowai to the supplier of each of the five water supplies listed?
Hon Simon Watts: The directions were issued by the Water Services Authority—Taumata Arowai under section 104 of the Water Services Act 2021. All five suppliers were directed to:
- Issue consumer advisories informing consumers that drinking water is or may be unsafe, and what measures the supplier should be taking to protect public health.
- Maintain consumer advisories, and ensure appropriate treatment barriers are installed, operating effectively, or an alternate supply of safe drinking water is made available.
- Report quarterly to the Authority, on the implementation of the directed consumer advisories.
In addition:
- The Stoneburn, Bushy Creek, Awatere and Dovedale supplies were directed to provide the Authority with written plans demonstrating the programme of works and funding proposed for the installation of effective treatment barriers, or an alternative compliance pathway.
- The Tuai village supply was directed to provide the Authority with a written plan demonstrating the programme of works and funding for the installation of effective chlorination.
