Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Transport: Did Waka Kotahi (or the secretary for transport) consult with the Privacy Commissioner, the Chief Ombudsman, and the Commissioner of Police prior to granting to Wilsons Parking New Zealand Limited the right to access information on the Motor Vehicles Register under s 241 of the Land Transport Act; if so when did each of those consultations occur?

Hon Simeon Brown: Yes. NZTA consulted with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, NZ Police and the office of the Ombudsman in March/April 2016 and December 2020 when Wilson Parking Ltd’s authorisation to access Motor Vehicle Register under section 241 of the Land Transport Act 1998 was renewed. Authorisation lasts a maximum period of 5 years.
