10392 (2024). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Local Government: What evidence, if any, is there to suggest that the Auckland Council now has additional capacity to be able to invest in the other critical infrastructure challenges facing the city because of the Local Water Done Well deal with Watercare?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that, in the process of requesting legislative enablement of the Council’s unanimously endorsed model, Mayor Brown and the Council have given due consideration to the financial benefits the model will achieve. In addition to creating additional debt headroom for Watercare to invest in critical water infrastructure, the financial separation also creates additional debt headroom for the Council. This will enable the Council to invest in other critical infrastructure across the region.
