10387 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: For the quarter ending 31 March 2024, what percentage of applications for Correction Officers roles, if any, lead to employment?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections has received more than 33,500 applications for frontline custodial roles between 1 October 2022 and 29 April 2024. More than 1,450 people have been recruited into Corrections Officer roles, with many more in the recruitment pipeline. Corrections is continuing their recruitment efforts, with a new advertising campaign resulting in a sharp increase in applications for Corrections Officer roles. Almost 20,000 applications for frontline roles have been received since the launch of the new recruitment campaign on 4 February 2024. I am further advised that job advertisements can be open for varying lengths of time, with interviews occurring after the closing date. The recruitment process for frontline staff is typically 10-12 weeks as Corrections undertakes a rigorous recruitment process to ensure people meet the requirements for the role. Therefore, applications made in the third quarter of 2023/24 may not lead to employment appointments until the fourth quarter of 2023/24.
