Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: Does he stand by his statement that “in the last six months now, you haven't seen them taking over provincial towns or taking over public roads, or abusing or intimidating members of the public en masse,”; if so, how is this consistent with a van being shot at in Hastings due to gang tensions last month?

Hon Mark Mitchell: Yes, I do. While unacceptable, that was not an en-masse takeover of an entire town such as the one the previous Government oversaw in Opotiki. The Government is working very hard on its promise to restore law and order.
