10363 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister of Police

Written Question

10363 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister of Police: Further to his reply to Written Parliamentary Question 5705 (2025), why does the Minister believe that it is not in the public interest to ask Police to further collect information on whether offending individuals are affiliated to an organised crime group outside of those registered on the National Gang List?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that each data item collected incurs a cost to both staff time and the development of systems capability. Additionally, classifying membership of organised groups is extremely difficult and not operationally relevant to investigating and prosecuting offenders.
