10321 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Prime Minister: What new artificial intelligence or machine learning systems, tools, or platforms, if any, have been commissioned, contracted, or deployed by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by system name, supplier, purpose, contract value, and date of commissioning?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is a departmental agency hosted by DPMC until 25 September 2025. The Cyclone Recovery Chief Executive was a functional Chief Executive appointed under the Public Service Act 2020 in March 2023 and disestablished with effect from 1 July 2025.
I am advised that DPMC deploy and use Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-Al) technology which currently includes Paerata and is in the process of rolling out Copilot Chat. The tools have been developed for internal use and are hosted in our private cloud environment.
DPMC’s information technology functions are maintained by the Central Agencies Shared Services (CASS) which is part of the Treasury. The activities of CASS will be reported on through the Treasury select committee reporting processes.
