10316 (2024). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Local Government: How will the new model with Watercare allow them to “borrow more money for long-term investment in water infrastructure and spread the borrowing over a longer period rather than front-loading the cost on to current ratepayers”?
Hon Simeon Brown: The new model means Watercare would no longer be constrained by Auckland Council’s borrowing restrictions and can therefore access more long-term borrowing to fund infrastructure investment. Improved access to long-term borrowing also means Watercare’s previously proposed price increases are reduced from 25.8% for 2024/25 to 7.2%.
