10314 (2024). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Local Government: How far into the future will the Local Water Done Well model with Watercare ensure rates remain affordable for?

Hon Simeon Brown: My expectation is the certainty around Watercare’s funding provided by the Council’s decision on the new model enables a price path for Aucklanders that is financially sustainable and removes the need for a 28.5% increase in 2024/25. Under Local Water Done Well, Watercare will be subject to economic regulation to ensure consumers receive value for money and an appropriate level of service quality. Until the full implementation of economic regulation this role will be performed by a Crown Monitor.
