Hon Erica Stanford: I refer the Member to the attached table showing the artificial intelligence or machine learning systems, tools, or platforms commissioned, contracted, or deployed by the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority since 27 November 2023, listed by system name, supplier, purpose, contract value, and date of commissioning. I am advised that Education New Zealand has not commissioned, contracted, or deployed any new artificial intelligence or machine learning systems, tools, or platforms since 27 November 2023. I am advised that the Education Review Office (ERO) has contracted two AI systems with the following details: • ERO school report analyser AI prototype Supplier: DataSing Purpose: The tool identifies the extent to which a school has included recommendations from their ERO review report in their implementation plan. The purpose of the tool is to help ERO quantify its impact. Contract value: The prototype was developed in partnership with DataSing, with each organisation providing their own resources. There was no financial contract, just an Memorandum of Understanding. Date of commissioning: April 2025 • M365 Copilot licenses x 50 Supplier: Microsoft Purpose: Piloting and trialing general efficiencies across the organisation including developing a prototype to assist with analysis and reporting, scanning large amounts of information, simplifying language, identifying themes and trends over time, use as an advanced editor. It is used as a support, not a decision maker Contract: Cost purchased under government procurement Date Commissioned: October 2025
