Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: If, as the Minister indicated in her answer to Oral Parliamentary Question 5 on Thursday 2 May 2024, the Oranga Tamariki restructure involves making "sure that all services are actually producing the best results for our young people", which would imply an examination of all services, why could the Minister not provide an answer to Written Parliamentary Question 7320 (2024) about what services Oranga Tamariki provides across its twelve regions?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that at the time of my answer to WPQ 7320 (2024), providing the information requested in the required timeframe would have required substantial collation and research, and would have diverted staff from their core duties. Therefore, consistent with Speaker’s Ruling 199-3, I considered the time and hence the expense of answering the question in the timeframe allowed was not in the public interest.
