10170 (2025). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Land Information: Is it the Minister’s intention that only public projects, not private projects, would be applicable if land acquisition is expedited under the proposed amendments to the Public Works Act?

Hon Chris Penk: The accelerated land acquisition process does not apply to private projects. To have access to these provisions, the projects listed in Schedule 2 of the Fast-track Approvals Act will need to be done by an agency that can use the Public Works Act to acquire land. This includes central government agencies, local authorities and network utility operators that are requiring authorities under the Resource Management Act 1991.
