Camilla Belich to the Minister of Health: How much has been spent on external communications, public relations, advertising, or media monitoring by each department or entity for which the Minister is responsible in each financial year since 2021/22, broken down by department or entity and by spending category?

Hon Simeon Brown: For the Ministry of Health, I refer the Member to the attached table. I am advised that for Health New Zealand, which came into being on 1 July 2022, information covering the 2022/23 and 2023/24 financial years is provided by the response to Question 209 of the Health New Zealand Annual Review 2023/24 Post Hearing Questions 160-484, https://www3.parliament.nz/resource/en-NZ/54SCHEA_EVI_66e8fd37-1148-404d-c727-08dd125b398c_HEA9152/183945bb807360137c7577202fa7e29b2ece7b58 I am further advised that providing the Member with similar information for the 2024/25 financial year would require Health New Zealand to undertake a substantial manual collation exercise and divert staff from their core duties. In accordance with Speaker’s Ruling 210-6, I consider that the time, and hence the expense, of answering the Member’s question is not in the public interest.
