10039 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Police: What staff engagement, morale, or culture surveys, if any, have been conducted by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by department or entity, date conducted, the organisation that administered the survey if external, and the overall engagement or satisfaction score reported?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that there is no current all staff workplace culture & engagement surveys in place at Police. Work is underway to understand what is needed in Police to measure engagement.
Currently Police’s Organisational Development team are responsible for two surveys which highlight aspects of engagement:
• Exit Survey - sent to all employees (Constabulary and Non-Constabulary) when they leave NZ Police.
• Induction surveys - sent to all permanent and fixed term Non-Constabulary employees once they have been employed by NZ Police for three months. A survey is also sent to their manager at the same time.
I refer the Member to the attached tables, which show the number of Exit Surveys and Employee Induction Surveys between 27 November 2023 and 28 February 2025 by score.
The Serious Fraud Office has conducted two staff engagement surveys since 27 November 2023, commencing on 12 June 2024, and 15 May 2025. The overall engagement score was 72% in 2025 and 74% in 2024. Both surveys were administered externally by “AskYourTeam”.
