Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police has not commissioned any new surveys or polling since 27 November 2023. However, Police continues to contribute to an existing, ongoing survey arrangement with the Ministry of Justice. Police participates in the Police Module of the New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey (NZCVS), which is operated by the Ministry of Justice under a long standing Memorandum of Understanding between the two agencies. The relevant details are as follows: • Department / Entity: New Zealand Police • Organisation commissioned: Ministry of Justice • Subject matter: Police Module of the NZCVS, which gathers information on public interactions with Police, and measures perceptions, trust, and confidence in Police • Date commissioned: March 2021 (ongoing as part of the continuing survey cycle) • Total cost: $360,000 annually for the latest cycle (Cycle 8), in accordance with the Police–Ministry of Justice Memorandum of Understanding. Costs are subject to periodic review The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has commissioned two surveys since 27 November 2023. These were undertaken as part of the reporting required by SFO’s Statement of Intent 2023-2027. In May 2024, Bright Research conducted a public trust survey at a cost of $22,090 plus GST. In July 2025, the Curiosity Company conducted a stakeholder engagement survey at a cost of $31,150 plus GST.
