Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What collaboration, if any, has the Minister and associated agencies and Ministry had with relevant stakeholders, including the agriculture sector and international health organizations, to coordinate efforts in preventing and managing the threat of avian influenza?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the Ministry for Primary Industries is the lead agency for avian influenza surveillance and preparedness in New Zealand, and leads collaborative efforts with domestic and international stakeholders. The Ministry of Health works in partnership with the Ministry for Primary Industries and the Department of Conservation to coordinate efforts.
