9924 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What international collaborations or partnerships aimed at sharing information and best practices in avian influenza prevention and control efforts, if any, is the Minister aware of by name?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the Ministry of Health and Health New Zealand are reviewing guidance from agencies such as the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control to ensure our guidance and planning are in line with global best practice. The Ministry of Health engages in a number of multi-country forums including Global Biosecurity which covers international emerging health trends. World Health Organization Member States have access to an Event Information Site, which includes surveillance information of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 (HPAI) detections. The World Animal Health Organization (WAHO) is another international organization that is sharing information and best practice approaches to addressing HPAI.
