9879 (2025). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Land Information: How many, if any, objections to compulsory land acquisitions under the Public Works Act have been resolved through the Environment Court in the past five years, listed by year and case?

Hon Chris Penk: Four objections to the purchase of land have proceeded to resolution through the Environment Court in the last five years. The following objections were the subject of a judgment by the Environment Court in the period since 1 January 2020: • Pascoe v Minister for Land Information [2024] NZEnvC 101 • MacFarlane Investments Ltd v Queenstown Lakes District Council [2023] NZEnvC 223 • Dromgool v Minister for Land Information [2018] NZEnvC 108 [2022] NZSC 157 • Shaw v Hamilton City Council [2021] NZEnvC 175 Other objections have been made to the Environment Court, but these cases have been resolved through mediation.
