9833 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Health: What redundancy or restructuring costs, if any, have been incurred by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by department or entity, the number of positions disestablished, and the total cost of redundancy payments?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that from 27 November 2023 to 20 March 2026, the Ministry spent $7,101,310 on redundancies and restructuring costs. Over this period, a total of 319 positions (including vacant positions) were disestablished and 174 positions were established. Of this figure, the total cost of redundancy payments for the requester period was $6,887,226. This is based on redundancy and in lieu payments made to 115 staff who have either taken voluntary redundancy or have been made redundant. I am further advised that Health New Zealand spent $22,899,478, for 730 employees, in FY2023/24. This includes all cessesation payments, not just redundancy costs. See p250 https://static.info.content.health.nz/docs/publications/Annual-Report-2023-24-Health-New-Zealand-Te-Whatu-Ora.pdf. A total of 85 roles (80.5 FTE) were identified for disestablishment as at September 2024, covering roles identified from November 2023 to September 2024. For FY2024/25, Health NZ spent $63,888,043 covering 1,822 employees. This includes all cessesation payments, not just redundancy costs. See p275 https://static.info.content.health.nz/docs/publications/Annual-Report-2024-25-Health-New-Zealand-Te-Whatu-Ora.pdf. A total of 526 roles were disestablished at in FY 2024/2025. I am also advised that for the eight months from 1 July 2025 to 1 February 2026, Health NZ made $15,112,664 in “redundancy only” payment.
