Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that 391 people have been made redundant since 27 November 2023. Included in this total are both voluntary redundancy and redundancy. The total cost of these redundancies was $25,215,611.4 I am further advised that the (then) Children and Young People’s Commission has disestablished one position since 27 November 2023. Total cost: $20,365. The Independent Children’s Monitor has disestablished one position since 27 November 2023. Total cost: $54,558.10 The New Zealand Artificial Limb Service has disestablished one position since 27 November 2023. Total cost: $27,566.88. The Social Workers Registration Board undertook an organisational review in 2025. Seven roles were disestablished. All affected staff were redeployed into new roles within the organisation. Total redundancy payments: $0. Total restructure cost: $75,812, comprising external consultancy fees associated with the organisational review process.
