Written Question
Published date: 30 Mar 2026
9608 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Conservation: What redundancy or restructuring costs, if any, have been incurred by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by department or entity, the number of positions disestablished, and the total cost of redundancy payments?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation advises me that, since 27 November 2023, DOC has processed 120 redundancies, at a total cost of $6,257,167.
Since 27 November 2023, a total of 870.7 FTE positions have been disestablished. Not all disestablished positions resulted in redundancies and in some cases restructuring resulted in no net reduction in the total number of positions. Over the same period, 620.5 FTE positions were established, resulting in a net disestablishment of 251.7 FTE positions.
More detailed information on restructuring decisions and workforce changes has previously been provided in responses to other written parliamentary questions and through Select Committee processes.
Since the Environment Committee 2025/2026 Estimates hearings, there have been a further four organisational restructures, during which 181.7 positions were disestablished and 111.5 positions established, resulting in a net reduction of 70.2 positions.
The information provided in this response reflects the position as at 19 March 2026.
