Camilla Belich to the Minister for Children: What redundancy or restructuring costs, if any, have been incurred by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by department or entity, the number of positions disestablished, and the total cost of redundancy payments?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki 260 staff have been made redundant since 27 November 2023. I am further advised the total redundancy payments to these staff is $13.349 million. I am also advised that to provide the list of roles broken down in the requested format would require substantial collation and divert staff from their core duties. In accordance with Speakers’ Ruling 199-3, I consider that the time, and hence expense, of answering this question in the timeframe allowed for written parliamentary questions is not in the public interest.
