9561 (2024). Rachel Boyack to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: Who, if anyone, has the Minister consulted regarding the setting of standards for the reinstatement of live cattle exports by ship?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: I have received correspondence from several stakeholders, including SAFE, Holstein Friesian New Zealand, and the Royal Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). I have also received correspondence from a range of interested members of the public.
The Ministry for Primary Industries will consult on options to reinstate the trade with improved animal welfare standards before providing me with more detailed advice and options as part of future work. There will be widespread consultation on options to reinstate the trade with improved animal welfare standards. I encourage everyone to engage with this consultation process when it occurs.
