9559 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: What are the plans for the future of Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Support delivery in New Zealand?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) is focused on providing more opportunities for teachers and kaiako to develop and implement structured approaches to teaching, as a part of the Literacy Guarantee. As a result, the Ministry is prioritising the development and delivery of programmes that embody structured approaches to teaching and learning. From 2025, the funding currently being put towards the Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Support programme will being reprioritised towards targeted supports for teachers that align with structured approaches to learning.
