9411 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Revenue: What legal proceedings, if any, are currently being defended by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible where the total claimed or estimated liability exceeds $1 million, listed by department or entity, the nature of the proceedings, the approximate value of the claim, and the current status?
Hon Simon Watts: Officials advise there are 11 civil legal proceedings currently being defended by Inland Revenue where the tax amount in dispute exceeds $1 million. These proceedings are primarily tax challenges, with a small number of judicial review and other matters, including a freezing order. The total combined tax amount in dispute across these proceedings is approximately $254 million. These matters are currently in various stages of litigation including awaiting a court decision, hearing date or pending settlement.
